www.brandenburger.deTrenchless rehabilitationBrandenburger sets the standardsPractical environmental protectionWhen selecting suitable rehabilitation technology, environmental concerns play an important part as well. The Brandenburgerpipe lining procedure distinguishes itself especially here. Thanks to the perfect interaction between liner material, resinand UV technology the Brandenburger liner hardens very quickly with minimal power consumption. The rehabilitated pipesections can generally be put back into operation after just a few hours. Thus local residents and the street traffic arebothered only minimally by the rehabilitation. Quick rehabilitation, no traffic jams, no construction site noise, minimal powerconsumption - these too are important factors for the quality and acceptance of a rehabilitation.Quick construction timeBrandenburger liners are delivered to the construc-tion site ready for installation. This not only ensuresthe consistent high quality of the liner material, but accelerates the rehabilitation time as well. Sinceextensive preparatory work for the curing processsuch as the resin impregnation can be omitted, the rehabilitation company can begin the installationright after preparing the construction site. The timeadvantage is most clear when compared to theheat-curing pipe lining procedure - in particularwith warm water curing - or even reconstructionof the sewer.Brandenburger pipe liners are cured by a specialUV light. Cure times of up to 150 metres per hourare possible due to the perfect interaction betweenliner material, resin and UV light equipment. This means practically: The rehabilitation of asewer section of up to 200 metres with a pipeliner DN 300 can be completed using theBrandenburger procedure in just 8 hours and isthus 2.5 times quicker than by warm-water curingprocedures. Not to mention a construction timeof several weeks when reconstructing sewer pipesin open cut.Brandenburgerpipe liningWarm watercuring pipe lining0 10 20Comparison Time requirements rehabilitation of DN 300 - 200 metres longConstruction site preparations (millingwork, high-pressure rinsing etc.)Set-up at construction site (waterpumping, TV inspection, preliner, infeedof inliner, etc.)CuringFinishing work and disassembly at job siteBrandenburgerMinimal traffic disturbanceThe speed of the rehabilitation with the Brandenburgerpipe lining is a benefit especially for local residentsand traffic.• They are spared tedious roadblocks or detours aswell as blocked off sidewalks by large-scale reha-bilitation construction sites.• The installation and curing equipment can adaptto the conditions on the construction site and thescope of the rehabilitation so that traffic continuesto flow while the sewer is rehabilitated underground.• Sewage pipes can therefore generally be putback into operation in the very same day.• This also means a significant service for the localresidents, who need to do without the accustomedconvenience for only a brief time.• Add to this the high flexibility, BrandenburgerGFRP pipe liners can also be installed in narrowand difficult to access streets and alleys as wellas on steep inclines. The Brandenburger procedurewith UV light curing by the compact BLUETEC®rehabilitation equipment is significantly superiorto all other rehabilitation techniques.Water/l100 l- 1000 lBrandenburger pipe liningWarm water curing ReconstructionComparison Waste amounts500 kg 2000 kg100 kgWaste/kgwww.brandenburger.deTrenchless rehabilitationBrandenburger sets the standardsBrandenburger Liner GmbH & Co. Not only areenergy costs an important factor, but also theenvironmental impact for example of increasedemission of environmentally harmful CO2 gasses. The curing by UV light technology consumes onlya fraction of the energy that is required to curepipe liners with heat curing (water or steam). The following reference value can be valid: For acure time of 4 hours using Brandenburger UVlight equipment, about 20 kW energy is consumed.Disproportionately greater is the amount of energyneeded for curing with water or steam. In order toheat water to about 80 °C in a comparable reha-bilitation segment and to keep it at this temperaturefor the cure time duration, an energy input of about600 kWh is required.Completely different values arise when taking atotal review of a reconstruction project with all theenergy-relevant effects of street construction, lorrymovements for the material transport or the effectof the construction project on the road traffic. Theshort rehabilitation durations with only minimaltraffic interferences avoids traffic jams and stop-and-go traffic with extremely high petrol consumptionand high pollutant emission. When you add up the power consumption of themany rehabilitations that are carried out every year, the energy efficiency of the Brandenburger pipelining acquires significant dimensions.Environmentally friendlySurveys have shown: In heavily populated areasin particular, people sense the disturbance fromnoise and dust as especially objectionable. Reha-bilitation jobs therefore need to be carried out aswith as little environmental impact as possible andwith the least possible disturbance for the localresidents. But also factors such as the consumptionof natural resources or environmental impactfrom emissions determine the quality of a reha-bilitation.EHere too the quickness and the compact constructionsite equipment of the trenchless Brandenburgerrehabilitation procedure has an especially positiveeffect in comparison to the reconstruction of sewagepipes. For here there is no noise from jackhammersor construction machines, lorry transports or trafficjams. This leads not only to less environmentalimpact, but also to an obviously better acceptanceof the required rehabilitation by the public. And savings of the resource drinking water deservesattention as well.• For the alternative pipe lining procedure with warmwater curing about 280 litres of fresh water permetre are needed for a pipe diameter of DN 600.At an average rehabilitation section of 200 metresthat would be already 56,000 litres (DN 300 =~28,000 litres; DN 1200 =~ 112,000 litres).• At the end of the curing process this waterbecomes sewage contaminated with styrene, whichmay need to be cleaned with difficulty. That is whythe light-curing Brandenburger procedure is es-pecially friendly to the environment thanks to theprecisely controllable and documented curingprocess.ConclusionPrimarily the quality and the longevity of the reha-bilitation of at least 50 years are important for thesewer rehabilitation. These criteria are fulfilled byBrandenburger with the DiBt approval (no. Z-42.3-330) in Germany, CSTB (no. 17/04-156), France,QUIK (no. 2004-12-4422-01), Switzerland andnumerous further national approvals as well asits own quality seal "Brandenburger Liner S27.18"with the Güteschutz Kanalbau e.V. A modern andstate-of-the-art rehabilitation procedure must beable to rate itself against further environmentalcriteria. Here too Brandenburger distinguishesitself by minimal disturbance of local residentsand traffic, high energy efficiency and utmostconservation of natural resources.Comparison Energy efficiency6000 l200 l12000 lBrandenburger pipe liningWarm water curingReconstructionEnergy / Heating oil in l
