ECOSOLUT 13 PPC Case Study APPLICATION High Performance Component Cleaning Benefits ECOSOLUT 13 reduced the time taken to clean components ECOSOLUT 13 replaced harsh chemical treatments and solvents thereby reducing the environmental impact of PPC’s heavy oil cleaning activities ECOSOLUT 13 reduced the costs of component cleaning Background The Public Power Company (PPC) of Greece operates 61 power plants with a total generating capacity of 12.8 GW and employs over 21,000 people. A number of these plants are older Heavy Fuel Oil facilities with significant cleaning requirements. PPC asked OTI Greentech to demonstrate the effectiveness of ECOSOLUT 13 for the cleaning of machinery and components as an environmentally friendly alternative to their existing treatments. Results PPC chose a number of components heavily contaminated with HFO residues (Heavy Fuel Oil - Number 6 oil). Results ECOSOLUT 13 was demonstrated to be very effective at removing oil contamination from PPC’s machinery and components. It increased the speed and quality of cleaning. In addition the easy of application and performance was favoured by the plant technicians versus their existing cleaning chemicals and gas oil. Application conditions 1. The contaminated component was first sprayed with the ECOSOLUT 13 concentrate and left to soak for several minutes (this step is unnecessary for lightly contaminated components). 2. The component was washed using a pressure wash, approximately 110 bar and 60oC with 1 litre of ECOSOLUT 13 diluted in 100 litres of water, for approximately 5 minutes. 3. Intermittently during pressure washing a hard brush was used to remove contamination residues, the number and duration depends on the levels of contamination. Next steps On the strength of the trials PPC entered into a supply contract with OTI Greentech for the supply of ECOSOLUT 13 to each of their power plants. ECOSOLUT 13 replaced other cleaning chemicals and gas oil used as an oil solvent.
