Inter-coastal Waterways The Type 3 Heavy Duty Turbidity Curtain is the strongest barrier offered and is designed for moving water applications no more than 1.5 knots, 2 foot waves, and 30 mph winds. Rugged, strong, and reliable, these turbidity curtains meet most state DOT regulations and can be rapidly deployed to your location. Type 3 Heavy Duty Turbidity Curtain Typical Type 3 Specifications Flotation 12” Marine Grade Flotation (depending on skirt depth) Fabric 22 oz. Reinforced Impermeable PVC Fabric Section Connectors Universal Bulk Connectors with Grommets Cables 5/16” Dual Tension Cable Bottom Chain 5/16” Bottom Ballast Chain Standard Section Length 50’ or 100’ Skirt Depth 5’ Standard, 3’ to 100’ available depending on the depth of your water Accessories Tow Bridles, Anchor Kits, Floating Marker Lights, Reefing Lines Section Length: 50’ (15 meters) and 100’ (30 m), other sizes available on request Skirt: In stock: 5’ (1.5 meters), Sizes 3’ to 100’ available Flotation Element: Typically a 12” flotation placed end to end in the top fabric pocket with consideration to allow folding for shipment and storage. (We recommend Polyethylene where barriers may come into contact with hydrocarbons) Fabric: 22 oz. Impermeable PVC (specification on request) Tension Cable: Dual 5/16” galvanized steel cables that are sheathed in vinyl and seamed fabric at the flotation. The cable is terminated at the end of each section and shackled to the section connectors for uniform tension load transfer. Ballast: The ballast/tension member is a 5/16" galvanized steel chain enclosed in a fabric pocket at the bottom of the skirt. The ballast chain connects from one section to the other via shackles. Section Connector: Sections of Type 3 Barrier are joined together by sliding together the aluminum Universal connectors that extend from the top of the flotation down the edge of the skirt. Below the connectors, skirts are joined by rope ties between evenly spaced grommets on the skirts. The ballast chain/stress plates are attached via a safety hook and ring. No tools are required.
