Science for the Green Economy Seminar
Increasingly, environmental issues are a nexus around which societal and business agendas are set. Executives and officials need up-to-date understanding of the scientific and technological evidence base for business strategies and environmental policies. Cranfield University have joined forces with Herbert Smith Freehills, one of the worlds leading law firms, to create ‘Science for the Green Economy’, a seminar series which provides timely and accessible seminars supported by authoritative briefing papers. Through this series, we aim to create a dynamic community of senior practitioners in global companies, Governments, NGOs, universities, scientific institutions and consulting firms.
Managing global water resources better is one of the most pressing challenges facing society, and fundamental to economic development, food security and reducing poverty. But water is at a tipping point, with demand outstripping available supplies, leading to conflicts over water allocation and negative impacts on the environment and livelihoods. Globalisation and a changing climate are exacerbating the situation, as governments try to deal with uncertainty surrounding water stress.
With a focus on ‘water for people’ and ‘water for food’, this seminar will discuss how research in the science, engineering and management of water is helping to address these challenges, to quantify the risks and develop more sustainable approaches to alleviate impacts on businesses and society.
