Program
Considering the growing number of challenges facing our environment, now more than ever, the need is evident for environmental professionals to focus and work together at a global scale to address these issues. Under such a paradigm, discrete technical advances would be leveraged to create harmonized approaches towards mutual solutions. The meeting offers opportunities to focus on transdisciplinary advances within a holistic system approach to meet these challenges head on.
Explores environmental toxicology and response to stress (biological, physical and chemical) in various system. Encompasses in silico and in vitro tools and methods involving adverse outcome pathway (AOP), mode of action, molecular toxicology, -omics, animal alternative testing, quantitative structural activity relationship (QSARs), high-throughput techniques and emerging approaches for statistical toxicology.
Aquatic Toxicology, Ecology and Stress ResponseExplores ecology, ecotoxicology and response to stress of all aquatic systems, including lentic and lotic freshwater systems, estuaries, coastal and marine environments.
Bridges both aquatic and terrestrial environments, and all potential stressors (physical, chemical, biological and biotechnological) with human and ecological endpoints towards the goal of integrated holistic assessment such as “One Health.”
Policy, Management and CommunicationIncludes all aspects of science application in policy or regulations and management (regulatory science), as well as science commination to stakeholders in diverse audiences.
Engineering, Remediation and RestorationAddresses remediation and restoration of stressor impacted air, water, and soil and sediment, including tools for predicting, monitoring and evaluation; technologies and methods for remediation and restoration; environmental engineering; green remediation; damage assessment; and strategies for management.
Chemistry and Exposure AssessmentComprises all aspects of chemical analysis, monitoring, fate and modeling, green chemistry and alternative chemical assessment.
Systems ApproachesUses cross- and trans-disciplinary approaches seeking to address complexity and large-scale issues by applying and integrating concepts such as life cycle assessment, sustainability, ecosystem services, impact assessment and environmental economics. Topics include regional and watershed-scale environmental management, climate change, resiliency and other related areas.
Meeting Format
The SETAC North America 41st Annual Meeting is being planned in a way that will allow environmental professionals to advance the field in a safe and inclusive fashion. The meeting will therefore include a virtual platform participants who cannot travel to Fort Worth. SETAC is partnering with the best virtual meeting provider in the business to provide a rich and comprehensive experience for those attending online.
All platform and poster presentations will be available on-demand, and live discussions will be in person and online. Live events will be facilitated via SETAC’s Zoom account. Participants attending virtually will NOT need to download the app but can stream using their browser.
On-demand Presentations
We are expecting that more than 1,000 presentations will be made available on-demand in the virtual space. The presentations will be organized per track and then by session. Participants will be able to search the program in advance to identify items of interest. Participants will also be able to search the presentations using the search function within the platform during the meeting.
Attendees will have the opportunity to ask the presenters detailed technical questions using textual Q&A boxes attached to the presentation, by email or by video or audio chat should the author chose to post this information (e.g. their personal Zoom, Skype, Whatsapp information). The Q&A boxes are available 24 hours. Additionally, presenters are asked to be available during a two-hour live period daily.
The presenters have the choice of presentation type and style to use to present their science so we’re looking forward to some innovative displays!
