ClimateCHECK, a firm that provides greenhouse gas (GHG) management and solutions for companies, organizations and governmental agencies, announces the opening of its San Francisco office. Lead by climate change and clean technology experts, ClimateCHECK’s expansion demonstrates the market demand by U.S. companies for technically advanced GHG management services.
The management of GHG emissions is a growing concern for U.S. companies, which want to make sound investments in technology and projects that reduce emissions, and at the same time, require a return on these investments. There has been, however, a lack of deep expertise and experience in how to leverage new processes, strategies and technologies that are more efficient in reducing GHG emissions with a strong business case.
“As U.S. companies increase their efforts to manage their GHG emissions and develop innovative solutions for both environmental and financial reasons, it makes sense for ClimateCHECK to establish a presence in the San Francisco Bay Area, which is an epicenter of the clean technology and GHG market,” said Tom Baumann, ClimateCHECK’s co-founder and CEO.
ClimateCHECK has worked with a number of major entities throughout North America helping them to measure, verify and account for their GHG emissions. The company offers innovative services and strategies in developing standards, protocols, programs and training to help companies get a better return on their GHG investments by identifying and assisting in the implementation of technologies that are the most effective in decreasing carbon.
ClimateCHECK’s depth and breadth of expertise in GHG processes, protocols and verifications will help U.S. companies navigate the complexities of reducing and managing their emissions. Baumann, a recognized expert in climate change, is the lead author of ISO 14064-2, the international standard on the quantification, monitoring and reporting of greenhouse gas emission reductions or removal enhancements for project and technologies.
At the forefront of GHG management issues, ClimateCHECK co-founded (with GHG Experts Network), the Greenhouse Gas Management Institute which educates and trains professionals on the measurement, methodologies and accounting of GHG emissions. The company has also lent its expertise to develop guidebooks on GHG accounting, verifications, standards and protocols. Additionally, ClimateCHECK works with the Southern Research Institute operators of the U.S. EPA’s GHG Technology Verification Center , to evaluate clean technologies and their GHG performance benefits.
Climate Change and Sustainability Experts Lead U.S. Team
ClimateCHECK has hired Jason Smith as vice president, key accounts and Pablo Päster as vice president, GHG management innovations. Smith comes to ClimateCHECK from LiveNeutral, which he co-founded and served as the executive director; the non-profit helps organizations and individuals reduce their carbon footprint and become carbon neutral. Päster, a sustainability engineer, founded and writes AskPablo.org, a sustainability blog that is featured on Salon.com.
“Smith’s and Päster’s accomplishments and leadership on GHG business and management solutions complement ClimateCHECK’s team and extensive technical network,” said Baumann. “Their expertise will help us provide the most effective carbon footprint services, carbon-neutral strategies and auditing and advisory services to the U.S. marketplace.”
