Why choose a Cone Tank over a Vertical Tank?
By far the most common polyethylene tanks produced by Enduratank are Vertical Storage Tanks. These come in many sizes and varieties from Potable and Non-Potable Water Tanks,Industrial Tanks, Insulated Tanks, Molasses and Fertiliser Tanks, Chemical Dosing and BatchTanks to name but a few.
Enduratank’s range of Cone Tanks, otherwise known as Cone Bottomed Tanks or Conical Tanks numbers over 30 and come in a variety of cone angles from 13° up to 60°.
Whilst designed primarily for applications requiring settlement or clarification of liquids or the bulk removal of solids from waste water, one of the major benefits of Cone Tanks is that they allow for the full drainage of the tank’s contents for quality control and the elimination of particulate. Simply put, they permit extremely easy cleaning and the total emptying of the tank itself.
Frequently the emptying and cleansing of a vertical tank presents no problems and they can simply be flushed out or cleaned by hand using a man-way which can be installed at the time of manufacture (care should be taken when entering a tank depending on the substance previously stored within). Vertical tanks are not designed as settlement tanks and are not generally used for the storage of viscous liquids although Molasses Tanks are a good example of where they can be and are successfully used for this purpose by the agricultural industry countrywide.
However, as with most things in life there is a requirement for maintenance or servicing of a product to ensure both longevity and continued peak performance; storage tanks of every description will benefit from these simple procedures.
Recently an example came to light of a farmer whose Vertical Molasses Tank had decreased significantly in capacity due to the fact that old molasses had solidified in the base of the tank. The removal of waste, once it has become solidified is problematical but can be overcome with determination and hard work provided that access can be gained to the base of the tank.
Cone Tanks however offer a simple solution to this problem and are available in sizes comparable to those of Vertical Tanks, even up to a total capacity of 30,000 litres. As with Vertical Tanks, Enduratank’s Cone Tanks are manufactured using UV stabilised mid density polyethylene in a seamless rotationally moulded process and are available in a choice of colours. They are supplied with a galvanised steel support frame and racking ports can be fitted as an optional extra. Additional bespoke outlets can also be installed at the time of manufacture if required.
