GeonicaAirport Weather Monitoring System

SHARE

The Airport Automatic Weather Observation Systems (AWOS system) deals with measuring all the meteorological parameters and meteorological instrumentation of airports and aerodromes, providing data already processed to the Meteorological Center for distributing them to the aircraft pilots and Authorities responsible for air traffic safety, using different communication ways.

Depending on the category of the airport, or if a heliport with smaller requirements is to be implemented, the parameters to be measured can vary considerably. Below we have listed all those that should be considered in any of the two cases:

  • Wind speed and direction.
  • Air temperature.
  • Relative humidity of the air.
  • Dewpoint.
  • Precipitation.
  • Atmospheric pressure (QFE-QNH).
  • Solar Radiation.
  • Visibility (MOR- Meteorological Optical Range).
  • Present weather (Intensity and type of precipitation: rain, snow, hail, etc..).
  • Cloud base height.
  • Vertical visibility.
  • Turbulence in altitude.

In addition to these parameters, the Airport Weather System includes the possibility of carrying out other measurements for providing information on the condition of the runways, for example, the presence of ice, and even sound level equipment for the continuous monitoring of the noise level generated by aircrafts.

All these measurements are integrated into the Airport Weather System, which represents a comprehensive solution for covering the requirements of this type of infrastructures. GEONICA`s Engineering Department is prepared to design the most appropriate solution for each individual project
