With their long, stainless steel semi-cylindrical chamber, they are ideal for collecting undisturbed samples from extremely soft, wet soils while ensuring minimal disturbance to any cohesive layers. If necessary, equip your gouge auger with an appropriate slide hammer to facilitate its advancement. Please keep in mind that bending and tweaking of the auger is more prone in tougher soil conditions.
