GEOFABRICS GlasGrid - Asphalt Geogrid for Reflective Cracking Control
GlasGrid asphalt geogrids are engineered to mitigate reflective cracking in asphalt overlays used in crucial infrastructure like roads, bridges, and car parks. The system consists of a high-strength reinforcement grid made from fiberglass strands, coated with an elastomeric polymer and configured into a grid. This structure exhibits exceptionally high tensile strength and modulus of elasticity, making it substantially stronger than steel by weight. Designed to be sandwiched between the levelling and surface courses of asphalt, it redistributes crack stresses horizontally, effectively slowing the propagation of cracks to the surface. Its self-adhesive nature simplifies the installation process, enabling fast application. This reinforcement geogrid is ideal for applications involving asphalt sealing and reinforcement, stabilising road or rail construction over weak soils, and allowing for steeper embankment constructions. By fortifying the system against thermal and stress-induced cracking, GlasGrid considerably extends the lifespan of asphalt overlays.
GlasGrid® asphalt geogrids are a high strength, reinforcement grid designed to control reflective cracking in asphalt concrete overlays on roads, freeways, bridges and car parks. GlasGrid reduces both thermal and stress-related cracking. This interlayer system is composed of a series of fiberglass strands coated with an elastomeric polymer and formed into a grid structure. Each strand has a remarkably high tensile strength and high modulus of elasticity; this is particularly important as asphalt concrete typically cracks at low strains, making GlasGrid stronger than steel by weight.
The fiberglass grid “sandwiched” between the levelling and surface courses of asphalt, is designed to turn crack stresses horizontally and dissipate the stress. GlasGrid helps retard cracking from reflecting through a new asphalt overlay to the surface. Its self-adhesive application allows for quick and easy installation.
