Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is produced as a result from the degradation of biomass. Far flowing distances, long flowing times as well as saving water at constant pollution loads cause the loads to start decomposition even within the channel.

This in turn leads to heavy corrosion of concrete channel constructions and, in combination with water, destroys the channel constructions in the long run. To avoid damaged channels it makes sense to investigate the hydrogen sulfide concentration, which allows to take the appropriate corrective measures.
