Corrosion is possible in anoxic solulions, though greally accelerates in the presence of oxygen. Acidity also increases Ihe rate of iron penetration to the metal surface. Indeed, corrosion of metals is very much like the functioning of a battery and protection relies on using stable products. For example, many common antt-scalants are based on acrylic acid. These decompose at temperatures below 240 °C. The loss of the hydroxy functionality generates gases whch can, as well, cause local pitting. Sulfonated dispersants are also often working at low pressures and temperatures. At high pressures, they can produce sulfite. While this is an oxygen scavenger, it also generates SO/` which can produce scale if divalent tons are present.
The characteristics of the grades of aquaSPERSE. suitable for high temperatures, are provided in Table 1. These all include oxygen scavengers, anth-scalant polymers as well as pH builders which are fully misctble and rated for the temperatures and pressures noted. aquaSPERSE 4032 is the most suitable for very high temperature applications. The 4032A and B includes Amber terpolymer blends, with slightly different compositions, as well as acrylate copolymers.
These products are compatible with neutralizing and filming amine blends (e.g. aquaMINE) and can be used. aquaMINE HP1 is generally recommended as Us is stable to 100 bars and high temperatures. However, formulauons based on hydrazine can also be supplied.
