CarboIronMicron-Sized Composite Material for Pollutant Removal

CarboIron is a micron-sized composite material integrating zerovalent iron with activated carbon, designed for effective remediation of contaminated groundwater. This patented substance facilitates the adsorption and removal of pollutants, capitalizing on the activated carbon to draw contaminants out of groundwater flow and securing them with reactive zerovalent iron cores. Notably, it is non-pyrophoric during handling and demonstrates substantial migration across porous media when injected. Additionally, it aids in the elimination of free pollutant phases and enables comprehensive, vinyl chloride-free dehalogenation. Developed by the Helmholtz Center for Environmental Research – UFZ in Leipzig, CarboIron represents a notable advancement in chlorinated hydrocarbon source remediation, creating reactive zones within groundwater currents. It's specifically suited for reductive in-situ dehalogenation processes targeting compounds like PCE and TCE.

Carbo-lron® is a patented, micron-sized composite material composed of zerovalent iron and activated carbon.
