FGMModel CIF -Catalytic Iron Filter for H2S Removal

SHARE

CIF is the English acronym for Catylitic Iron Filter . Although rarely used in Italy, the iron catalytic filter is an excellent degreaser for hydrogen sulphide, mercaptans and a coarse droplet separator. The catalytic filter for Hydrogen Sulphide and Mercaptans is composed of a vessel with a fixed bed of carbon steel filling bodies inside. The material placed within is non-hazardous and non-toxic in both its virgin and depleted form. Therefore, the use of this technology is strongly recommended wherever there are flows of air heavily polluted by sulfur: the CIF optimizes the consumption of the downstream filters, maximizing their capture efficiency.

As a result this technology has found use in:

  • Tannery
  • Pozzetti for the revitalization of civil purifiers
  • Sludge thickening

Similarly a CIF module  is strongly recommended as a pre-treatment in biofilters, especially in all those subject to peak concentrations of Hydrogen Sulphide.

In particular, it is thanks to the action of the oxygen contained in the air that the iron of which the filling bed is composed - in an acid environment - is able to oxidize to give iron oxide. Consequently the Iron Oxide reacts with the Hydrogen Sulphide according to the chain of chemical reactions:

  • 2Fe + 3/2 O2 -> Fe2O3
  • Fe2O3 + 3H2S -> Fe2S3 + 3H2O
  • Fe2S3 + 3/2O2 -> Fe2O3 + 3S

Overall:

  • 3H2S + 3/2O2 -> 3S + 3H2O

Therefore all our installations have been working for years.
