Cathay’s multiaxial (NCF) technologies integrates advanced fibre spreading techniques, high conversion speed, adjustable laying heads and has the capability to manufacture fabrics at variable widths. Multi-axial fabrics comprise of one or more layers of fibres with varying orientation that are stitched together with a lightweight thread.

This technology offers zero crimp for maximised mechanical performance. Styles available are Uni-directional, Double Bias, Biaxial, Triaxial, and Quadriaxial fabrics. Typical applications include automotive components, aerospace structures and marine vessels. Multi-axial fabrics can be made in custom widths from 100 mm to 1270 mm. Weight per layer ranges are from 75 gsm to 600 gsm. Multi-Axial Fabrics have a lower susceptibility to fibre buckling, which is favourable to exert mechanical properties directly to the fibres. Material efficiency through design, though the ability to orientate the fibres where strength is needed the most. As the fabrics are non crimp this minimises resin pooling ensuring a higher fibre to rein content, or Fibre Volume Fraction Vf, which enhances composite mechanical properties compared to woven fabrics.
