Custom water level staff gages (also spelled “gauges”), as with Standard gages, are measuring devices used to visually monitor water levels in rivers, lakes, reservoirs, wetlands, or other bodies of water. These gauges are considered "custom" when they are specifically designed to accommodate site conditions, user preferences, or regulatory standards. Tailored to particular needs, custom gauges are often larger to facilitate visibility from a distance, positioned on slopes, or installed at specific angles. Additionally, custom gauges can display alternative units of measurement, incorporate local datums, or feature elevation reference marks.
