Filtration

  • Feed enters the Filter Inlet. Tangential entry initiates downward swirling motion of feed. This action forces heavier solids to move toward filter wall.
  • Feed passes through stationary, cylindrically shaped filter media, leaving filtered solids deposited on the outer surface of the media.
  • Filtrate passes down through openings into the lower chamber of the filter. Filtrate exits through the filtrate outlet under pressure.

Media Cleaning

  • A small portion of the filtrate enters the booster pump where pressure is increased to 90 psi for backwash. The high pressure backwash is pumped to the Rotating Cleaning Shower located inside the filter media.
  • The Cleaning Shower, which rotates at two cycles per second, constantly sprays the pressurized filtrate back through the media and blasts solids off the outer surface.
  • Concentrated solids are continuously discharged.

Supplementary Media Cleaning:
The CycloSpray controls include an automatic feature to discharge excess solids if there is an upset in the filter feed. In normal operation the filtrate valve is fully open and the concentrated solids valve is throttled. If excess solids enter the filter, an increase in pressure drop is sensed across the filter The filter will automatically open the concentrated solids valve and throttle the filtrate valve. This has the effect of Increasing flow of the concentrated solids while reducing the amount of liquid passing through the media. This enables the filter to flush out the excess solids. Within seconds the filter returns to normal operation and the controller automatically resets the valves.
