Origen leverages the capabilities of limestone along with industrial technology to counter the emissions of CO2 through Direct Air Capture (DAC). The Origen Kiln is a proprietary mechanism intended to drive CO2 out of limestone using adaptable fuel sources, while the Origen Low Intensity Contactor utilizes basic structures to facilitate passive CO2 capture. An advanced form of calcium oxide or lime, engineered by Origen, optimizes this process by ensuring the material's high capacity for CO2 absorption. Origen's method aims to minimize the complexity and cost associated with DAC by employing readily available resources like limestone and thermal energy. By taking possession of the core components—kiln and contactor—Origen provides a complete and unified system capable of permanently sequestering CO2 for over a millennium. As the company moves forward in scaling its project deployments, it aims to offer a reliable and enduring solution to halt the negative impacts of climate change by reducing atmospheric CO2 levels.
The science is clear
In addition to decreasing emissions, we need to remove CO2 that we’ve already emitted, to prevent climate change from continuing to harm our planet. And we need to do it now.
Direct Air Capture (DAC) is one of the most promising technologies to remove CO2 due to its ability to verifiably and permanently sequester CO2 for millennia.
But there’s a catch – DAC is currently too complex, too expensive, and not deployable at great scale.
