Blade Mills are specialized machines used in various applications to initiate the removal of light, loamy clay or dirt from coarse rock or sand before further processing. Unlike Coarse Material Washers, Blade Mills operate at a shallow slope of 0° to 5° without an overflow, requiring material and water to exit through a discharge opening at the bottom. Featuring shafts with alternating paddles and flights, these units effectively scour and abrade deleterious materials, enhancing cleaning efficiency. Depending on configuration, they discharge material onto screens or dewatering equipment for further processing. Blade Mills are very similar in appearance to Coarse Material Washers but function much differently. The major difference is that any material and water that enters the Blade Mill must exit through the discharge opening located at the bottom of the washer tub opposite the feed end, as these units are installed at a shallow slope position of 0° to 5°. There is no overflow in this type of unit. Using a combination of paddles and flights arranged in alternating format the entire length of the shafts, they begin to scour, abrade and break down deleterious material. The shafts can have different configurations but mainly the idea is to have alternating flights and paddles. Rock, sand, or a combination of rock and sand depending on the process plant location typically discharges directly onto a washing/sizing vibrating screen or dewatering equipment.

 

While very similar in appearance to Coarse Material Washers, EIW Blade Mills function quite differently. The major difference between the two is that any material and water that enters the Blade Mill must exit through the discharge opening located at the washer box opposite the feed end. As a Blade Mill is installed at a 0° to 5° slope, all solids material and water discharges at the opposite end of the incoming feed to downstream processing equipment.’ Blade Mills use an alternating combination of paddles and flights the entire length of the shaft to scour, abrade and break down deleterious material. The shafts are capable of having various configurations. Blade Mills should be installed on a slope of 0 to 5 degrees. Due to the lower machine operating slope, Blade Mills have higher capacities compared to Coarse Material Washers of the same size
