Our History

Eriez was founded by O.F. Merwin, a traveling grain milling equipment salesman, who repeatedly heard from his customers about the same issue: ferrous contamination in their processes. From tiny bits of wire to nails and bolts, to horseshoes and hammers, stray iron would flow down the chute with grain into the miller’s equipment, causing serious damage to their machinery and potentially causing an explosive fire.

O.F. Merwin developed the first permanent magnetic plate separator prototype in the basement of his Erie, Pennsylvania home to protect grain millers from their ever-present issues, and through Bob and Betty Merwin’s continued strategic expansions and unrelenting forward-thinking, the rest is history.

The Merwin Family’s legacy of innovation continues today, with Richard Merwin continuing to serve as Chairman of the Board.

Global Presence

Through innovation, organization and diversification, Eriez Magnetics has evolved into a technologically advanced, financially sound, international company with manufacturing facilities in Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Europe, India, Japan, Mexico and South Africa, as well as its Erie, Pennsylvania, U.S.A. headquarters. Eriez has sales offices across the United States and some 80 international markets on five continents.

Customers are assured of consistent product quality and fast response from whichever plant is closest to them. Eriez sales engineers and service teams throughout the world reflect the same customer-oriented philosophy.

Around the world, Eriez personnel are active in various Professional and Industrial Trade Associations in order to bring the latest ideas and technology to the application problem solving process.

Technical Centers

Eriez maintains industry’s largest magnetic, vibratory and inspection system test laboratory at its Technical Center, adjacent to the headquarters plant in Erie, Pennsylvania, U.S.A. Tests can also be performed at Eriez Affiliates worldwide. More than 100 pieces of specialized test equipment are on hand at the Technical Center in Erie. Here customer products and raw materials are analyzed confidentially and ways to separate or move, screen or detect them more efficiently and economically are then suggested. Feasibility and definitive studies are conducted.
