The standard 5-part pellet dies consist of a base, a body, 2 pressing pellets between which the sample is pressed as well as a plunger. In addition, 2 O-rings are used to complete the die and enable superior performance. Dies are also supplied with an extractor cup or ring to enable easy removal of the sample. All dies 5 -20mm have an evacuation tube, the 32 and 40mm dies are available with or without an evacuation tube. Those which have an evacuation tube allow the fitting of a vacuum pump to be used to assist with the removal of moisture if desired during the pressing process. The 32 and 40mm dies available without an evacuation tube have an evacuation port to allow air to escape. As dies are subject to a load placed upon them, each has a maximum load rating which should not be exceeded – see below.
