Fiberweb - Bicomponent Nonwovens
Fiberweb offers unique bicomponent nonwovens, combining the benefits and characteristics from two different polymers within the web. Most bicomponent fabrics available on the market are made with staple fibers, relying on mechanical bonds, which have the potential to separate from the web. Fiberweb’s bicomponent fabrics are made with a continuous filament spunbond process, making the resulting nonwoven stronger, more durable and will not ravel or fray.

Fiberweb® Bicomponent Advantages
- Sheathe and core Fiberweb bicomponent fabrics utilize a sheath and core construction, where a core filament made of one resin is completely surrounded by a sheathe of a different resin. Bicomponents are used when it is important for the surface to have one characteristic such as dyeability, soil resistance or heat insulating properties, while the core contributes to strength, flexibility or some other needed characteristic. The different characteristics of the different resins combine to add performance to the nonwoven that could not be achieved with a single resin.
- Functional additives Fiberweb® offers functional melt additives, which increase the performance of the nonwoven and eliminate the need for separate finishing steps. Adding a functional additive only to the sheathe is more economical and effective, as the additive is made available to the surface of the fibers where it does the work.
- Resins Many resins can be used in a bicomponent, including polyester, polypropylene, polyethylene and polylactic acid, to name a few.
