Croft Drumpak - Model 2948A/2949A/2950A -General Purpose Package
The DRUMPAK consists of a robust stainless steel containment system incorporating a sealed closure. The DRUMPAK is a family of three (Design Nos 2948A / 2949A / 2950A), designed to carry a wide range of radioactive material. The large cavity allows flexibility in packing contents and will accommodate all the commonly used 200 litre waste drums; large pieces of activated plant and items of manufactured equipment. The stainless steel container provides a robust finish, needing very little maintenance.
Designed as a reusable Type A/IP-3 package to the IAEA Regulations for the Safe Transport of Radioactive Material No. TS-R-1.
Licensed by Croft Associates Limited as a general purpose Type A/IP-3 package, which is generally used for the carriage of a wide range of radioactive material.
Approval Certificates include:
- 2948A Type A - No GB/2948A/A-96
- 2948A Type IP III - No GB/2948A/IP3-96
- 2949A Type A - No - GB/2949A/A/-05
- 2949B Type IP III - No GB/2949B/IP3/-05

The main body provides the secondary containment system for the package. The packages forming the contents will provide the primary containment. The contents are also limited to ensure that the external radiation levels of the package, as loaded and presented for transport, are within regulatory limits.
- Type A classified radioactive material in solid form (e.g. manufactured equipment, activated items and waste), Low Specific Activity (LSA), or Surface Contaminated Objects (SCO) material suitably packed
- Maximum contents weight of DRUMPAK 450kg (see table below). This could potentially be increased subject to safety review by the approval authority
- The contents must be packed in such a manner so as to prevent movement or point contact during normal conditions of transport. The contents are also limited to ensure that the external radiation levels of the package, during routine and normal conditions of transport, as loaded and consigned for transport, comply with regulatory limits
Road, rail, sea, air and inland waterway.
