GeonicaSafe Road Weather Information System

SHARE

The Safe Road System has been specifically designed by GEONICA with the aim of offering advanced solutions for increased road safety, integrating an entire series of new technologies covering the measurement, process, transmission and spreading of environmental data that can be of such significant influence on the safety of vehicles in motion. The safe Road Weather Information Systems (RWIS) likewise incorporates diverse types of traffic detectors, classifiers, counters and speed meters for vehicles, these being of tremendous utility for the authorities and those responsible for road and motorway management and conservation.

In the illustration found below, a complete diagram is presented of the Safe Road System. The data collected from all the meteorological sensors, pavement status sensors, vehicle detectors, etc. are collected and stored in the Data Acquisition and Transmission Unit model METEODATA-3000C. All the information is transmitted in quasi-real time to a central computer with Geonica Suite Software application through diverse methods that are available (radio, optical fibre, GSM / GPRS or through the Internet), where said data is finally processed, and published on a WEBTRANS server, for general or restricted user access.

The Safe Road SYSTEM consists of the following functional subsystems:

  • Environmental meteorological sensors, for thermal soil flow and pavement status.
  • Vehicle detectors, counters/classifiers and speed meters.
  • Remote Data Acquisition and Transmission Unit model METEODATA-3000C powered by internal batteries with solar panel charger or mains.
  • Data transmisión network via radio, GSM/GPRS, Internet, optical fibre, etc.
  • WEBTRANS for information spreading, with warnings, alarms and meteorological predictions, by way of the IInternet, to the different System users.
Typical Sensors integrated in Safe Road System are listed down below.Meteorological and Pavement Sensors:
  • Wind Speed and Direction
    • Barometric Pressure
    • Air Temperature and Relative Humidity
    • Solar Radiation
    • Snow Height
