Simultaneous MT and AMT Broadband Data with MTC-155 and MTC-185

Eliminating the division of the Magnetolluric spectrum between Audi-frequency AMT (10kHz ~ 10 sec.) and MT (100Hz ~ 5,000 sec.), Phoenix 100-series sensors acquire the entire spectrum of interest in a single broadband recording.

Switch-free, the MTC-155 and MTC-185 acquire both bands simultaneously, greatly improving deadband response in both the MT and AMT spectrum. This provides outstanding low-frequency response without compromising near-surface data. During overnight MT recordings, being switch-free means that AMT gets collected at no additional cost: eight hours of MT also records eight hours of AMT at the same time.

Rugged and Reliable

Designed for life in the field, Phoenix sensors bring together nearly 50 years of design and manufacturing expertise to be incredibly rugged and reliable. Milspec connectors, IP68 water-intrusion environmental sealing design, and a carbon-fibre body help ensure years of useful service.

Designed to work directly with Phoenix’s modern receivers, 100-series sensors connect directly to each magnetic input on MTU-5C. MTU-8A and RXU-8A systems, increasing dynamic range and eliminating the need for any adaptor boxes. MTC-50H, MTC-80H, and AMTC-30 sensors also connect directly, with no adaptors, splitter cables, or additional power supply required.

Static Shift Correction for MT

Other EM ground techniques, in addition to well calibration or airborne EM data, can provide useful indications of how much MT data has been shifted by galvanic effects. Having the full AMT and MT response for each recording by using MTC-150 sensors can help mitigate the static shift effect and improve decision quality for solving static shift issues, with this extra information provided at extra cost or recording time.

In-Field Calibration

Equipped with full internal calibration electronics, Phoenix sensors can be field-calibrated by users easily and quickly, with no additional equipment required. Results are reviewable and usable in the EMPower data processing and management program in seconds after completing a calibration. Multiple calibrations can be performed and stored for comparison and use as desired, and sensor calibrations can be shared between receivers and EMPower projects.

Mining Applications

Mining targets are getting deeper, and MT is a viable alternative to other commonly-used ground and airborne geophysics that are themselves often limited in depth. Traditionally, at 800m and below, the 10 Hz to 10 seconds “MT dead band” often corresponds to the target depths, in turn making anomalies hard or even impossible for MT to detect. Providing a much improved response in the MT dead band and a clean response in the AMT deadband with overnight readings, the 100-series sensor (or MTU-8A using both MT and AMT sensors at the same time) provides the mining industry a reliable, low-noise source of electromagnetic data from 10,000 Hz down to 0.1 Hz.

MTC-50H, MTC-80H and AMTC-30 Sensors

MTC-50H, MTC-80H, and AMTC-30 sensors continue to provide dedicated bandwidth-limited recording capability, and are fully compatible with MTU-5C, MTU-8A and RXU-8A systems; no adaptors required. With the MTU-8A, the six available magnetic channels support any combination of Phoenix sensors for easier field calibration and PNT testing, or obtaining full broadband recordings using one set of MT sensors (MTC-50H or MTC-80H) simultaneously with another set of AMT sensors (AMTC-30).
