CSS Electronics - Model CANgps -GPS-to-CAN Module with 3D Inertial Sensor and Untethered Dead Reckoning
The CANmod.gps by CSS Electronics is an advanced GPS-to-CAN module featuring a u-blox NEO-M8U GNSS/IMU chip, designed for seamless integration with any high speed CAN bus system. This device outputs GNSS position and 3D inertial data while delivering continuous positioning through its sensor fusion technology, even in the absence of a GNSS signal, thanks to its Untethered Dead Reckoning capability. Its flexible power requirements (5-26 V DC) simplify installation across various automotive applications. The compact module is configured to broadcast data via configurable CAN bus frames and includes utilities for modifying CAN IDs, bit rate, and data frequency using a simple JSON-based configuration interface. The CANmod.gps is ideal for enhancing automotive telematics, enabling the connection of one or more CANmod.gps devices to a CAN network, and efficiently logging data from both CAN traffic and the module's sensor outputs. This versatility makes it a cost-effective solution for adding GNSS/IMU data into a variety of CAN bus systems.
This standalone GPS-to-CAN module produces GNSS position and 3D inertial data (via a gyroscope & accelerometer) and outputs it via configurable CAN bus frames.
The module supports 'Untethered Dead Reckoning' - meaning that even if the GNSS signal is lost entirely, the module can deliver continuous positioning through IMU-based estimates (no external inputs required).
You can integrate the module with any CAN bus, e.g. vehicle networks or CAN hardware. As an example, you can use it as a plug & play add-on module for the CANedge.
