VOR - Model GT Series -Gravity Belt Thickener i
Gravity Belt Thickener is intended for reducing sludge volume of biosolids and waste activated sludge. Also the thickener can be used as first stage of dewatering together with belt filter presses, filter presses, decanter centrifuges for those dehydrator productivity improvement by initial stage.
The VOR Gravity Belt Thickener uses only gravity, a porous drainage belt and plough system to enhance thickening performance. It is specifically designed for continuous operation, high hydraulic throughput, low polymer usage, low maintenance, and long operational life.
Typically, a gravity belt thickener receives a slurry ranging from 0.5-2% feed solids and produces a pumpable concentrate 5-10% for dewatering or further processing. Performance depends on the nature of the solids being processed.
PROCESS DESCRIPTION:
Before sludge enters the thickening unit it is chemically conditioned in the flocculation tank(supplied with belt thickener) with a liquid polymeric coagulant that helps form stronger floes, then drops the sludge to a moving porous belt and distributed evenly all over its operation length of filter belt.
As the slurry makes its way down the moving belt freewater drains through the porous belt under gravity force, and the shifting ploughs constantly shift the sludge layer to help water drain out. At the end of the thickening zone the already thickened sludge is discharged into the receiving bin. The thickener is flushed by water under pressure in the flushing zone after filter cake removal.
After thickening on the thickener the sludge moisture can be reduced from 98-99% to 90-96% i.e.decrease of sludge volume in 3-10 times occurs.
GT series Belt Thickeners are well known for their high quality standard. The stainless steel frame allows operation under difficult circumstances. Some great features of a gravity belt thickener include:
- Continuous operation
- High loading rates
- Volume reduction
- High solids capture
- Economical operation due to low polymer and energy consumption
- Fully automatic, easy to service, easy to operate
