The Globalstar and Iridium handheld satellite phones enable primarily voice conversations. Globalstar has a North American footprint, while Iridium works anywhere in the world. Both are larger than a typical mobile phone, but still small enough to carry in a backpack, and very simple to use. Water, shock & dust resistant for rugged environments. Data Capable at 4.8kbps.
