The OEM probe is constructed using brazed 304 stainless steel and zirconia insulator. 304 stainless steel is not the best material to use for probe construction. The thermal expansion coefficient (rate of expansion with increase in temperature) of the two materials does not match well and it leaves the probe susceptible to failure at the brazed joint. Drumline use materials that are more closely matched in terms of thermal expansion coefficient, which results in a more reliable probe.
