Industrial Valves-System Accessories For High Pressure Pump Systems
A pressure regulator is a valve that monitors the pressure in a pumping system and automatically by-passes unused liquid while maintaining a certain set system pressure. Pressure regulators are used as a primary pressure control valve in high-pressure pumping systems. A pressure regulator is typically used in multiple-pump and multi-gun systems or multi-nozzle installations where a consistent pressure is desired while parts of the system may not be operating. It may also be used in single pump systems requiring full instant system pressure.
Cat Pumps` industrial pressure regulators feature a flow-through design for easy installation in the discharge line or directly onto the manifold head of the pump. The unique conical design technology handles the high velocity of water flowing through the valve, eliminating the effects of cavitation as the pressure energy is dissipated across the piston and seat. With a nominal 5% by-pass, these conical valves provide a smooth transition from full flow into by-pass. The top adjusting nut applies a downward force on the spring set in the upper body and on the piston in the 7001-7033 and 7375-7376 series regulators, thereby, setting the pressure. The upper body features weep holes that allow water to pass as o-rings wear . This weeping signals the need for servicing. These valves handle flows from .5 to 75 gpm.
The ultra-compact low flow regulator models 7370, 7080, 7082 and 7085 feature the traditional piston, stem and seat design. These valves are a tee-mount style. They hold consistent system pressure and by-pass unused flow just like the larger valves, but are designed for flows from 1.0 to 7.8 gpm.
Because the pressure regulators hold the set system pressure in the discharge line during by-pass, full system pressure is constant and instant to all services being performed such as a gun being activated.
By-pass from the pressure regulators can be routed to drain, back to a properly baffled supply tank, or to the pump inlet with a pressure reducing valve before the inlet port.
A pressure regulator protects the pump[s] from excessive pressure should nozzles or guns become blocked or a discharge valve is accidentally closed. In addition to a pressure regulator, all high pressure pumping systems should include a secondary pressure relief valve for optimum safety.
