Explosion protection and potentially explosive zones. Even a small spark or hot surface is often enough to cause extremely serious industrial accidents in potentially explosive working environments, in other words wherever the handling of flammable substances is part of everyday work, for example in the chemical industry or the oil and gas sector. But even in some areas of the processing industry such as the textile, wood or food industries, explosions caused by flour dust for example can also have devastating effects, endangering human lives and causing high financial costs. Occupational health and safety is the top priority here and electric motors must ensure this high level of safety by means of a special design and the appropriate certification to prevent accidents at work and protect human lives.

Innomotics HV C air-cooled is an ultra-compact, extremely reliable high voltage motor for non-hazardous areas, including Ex zones 2 and 22 (Ex ec and Ex tc), with a power density 10-15 % higher than other motors in the same size. The innovative rib and tube cooling concept, as well as a vibration-optimized design concept enable flexible integration into various plants and industry applications.

A potentially explosive working environment can exist if the following factors occur simultaneously:

  1. a flammable substance (gas or dust) and oxygen O2 (air)
  2. a source of ignition (spark, hot surface, smoldering nests etc.)
  3. a specific ratio of oxygen to flammable substance

The risk of an explosion must be evaluated in a risk assessment. Various aspects must be considered when determining the potential hazard:

  • Are potentially flammable solid, gaseous, liquid or dust-like substances present in a plant or a facility, or can they occur in the work process and, if so, where they can arise (inside equipment, for example)?
  • What quantities of explosive atmosphere can be present or can arise?
  • Are the expected quantities of an explosive atmosphere hazardous due to local and operational conditions and can they be prevented from forming?
Design & Construction
  • The highly flexible motor design of Innomotics HV C air-cooled allows for project-specific adaption to customer interfaces (e.g. variable junction box position), enables simplified installation and increased flexibility in plants and systems.
  • The innovative cooling concept enables a compact and lightweight motor design (optimized by FEM analysis) that increases power by up to 15 % and extends component life without changing overall size.
  • The Innomotics HV C air-cooled impresses with the vibration-optimized design of the motor, the cable routing inside the motor and the compact, service-optimized terminal box with many possible positions.
  • A uniform platform design for compact, air-cooled motors with or without explosion protection reduces costs over the entire life cycle – from planning and procurement, through engineering and plant integration, to service, warehousing and spare parts management.
  • The Innomotics HV C air-cooled extend the range beyond existing flameproof and water-cooled versions.
  • The Innomotics HV C air-cooled completes our compact motor platform, which consists flameproof and water jacket cooled motors, with an air cooled version.

Cooling-System
  • The cooling system of the Innomotics HV C air-cooled combines rib and tube cooling with an internal cooling circuit to realize the most compact design possible with a small footprint while reliably avoiding hotspots.
  • The engine impresses with optimized engine cooling using an advanced fan design. In contrast to conventional concepts, this significantly reduces motor temperature and optimizes the power density.
  • Thanks to optimized temperature distribution, the Innomotics HV C air-cooled has an extremely high power density and an extremely long service life. Even in extreme environments, the Innomotics HV C air-cooled runs very safe and reliable.

Digitalization via Inspire IQ
  • Innomotics HV C motors are in integral component of Inspire IQ, the digital platform for optimizing drive systems.
  • The Innomotics HV C motors have an optional connectivity Innomotics Connect 600 module for integration into the digital, cloud-based solution. This uses temperature and vibration sensors to capture and process data such as bearing temperatures, winding temperatures and housing vibrations and transmits this information for analysis in the cloud.
