Innovation Nilu - Atmospheric Microplastic Collector System

The design and development of the Innovation nilu collectors are based on an evaluation of similar equipment in use in various countries. In addition to the given performance criteria, factors such as construction materials, ease of handling and transportability determined the shape and dimensions of the collector. The Atmospheric Microplastic Collector is based on the design of Innovation nilu’s Particulate Fallout Collector which has been considered by ISO (International Standardization Organization) for adoption as an international reference collector for particulate fallout.

The mounting stand allows collectors to have the same position relative to the bird ring. The stand is adjustable in height so that the collectors can always be adjusted to the prescribed height above ground (for instance when the snow depth varies), and to facilitate the changing of collectors.

The stainless-steel collector is designed to minimize contamination of the sample and when preparing the sampler for field measurements are heated to more than 400° C to make sure the sampler is clean. The Atmospheric Microplastic Collector can be used in parallel with a precipitation sampler if the amount of precipitation is important.
