iSep - Ultrafiltration Membrane Elements
iSep (Integrated SpiraSep Membrane Module) is the latest evolution in SpiraSep UF membrane technology aimed at lowering overall cost of ownership for water and wastewater applications. The UF market has multiple membrane formats with each design configuration utilizing different anti-fouling characteristics. TriSep engineers saw an opportunity to develop a UF format unlike any other on the market by incorporating the different features and benefits of commercially available UF/MF membranes into a single format.
While maintaining the design advantages of submerged membrane systems, such as vacuum operation and air scouring, the SpiraSep UF membrane was re-engineered into a skid mounted format, resulting in a fully integrated tank design. In simple terms, the UF membrane and tank have been integrated into a single module. This design evolution greatly reduces CAPEX for submerged membrane systems by eliminating the need for a large process tank. New operational capabilities are introduced such as frequent tank draining, concentrate recirculation, and cross flow operation during cleaning, that greatly enhance UF membrane performance. iSep also maintains the superior mechanical integrity of a spiral wound membrane resulting in excellent effluent quality unmatched by other UF designs.
iSep is the first UF membrane to incorporate the various design features benefits of both pressurized and submerged UF/MF systems:
- Integrated Tank Design - Membrane element and tank have been integrated into a single, encapsulated module eliminating the need for a large process tank.
- Frequent Draining - High tank intensity design allows for frequent draining, effectively purging solids from the membrane module resulting in lower fouling.
- Membrane Aeration - The open flow channels enable aggressive air scouring where bubbles "scrub" the membrane surface clean.
- High Effluent Quality - The strong, durable design of the iSep element eliminates mechanical failures, ensuring high quality effluent throughout the life of the element.
- Membrane Backwash - Periodic backwash purges particulate matter from the membrane surface
- Concentrate Recirculation - Membrane aeration, which generates air pump effect, allows for concentrate recirculation without adding additional energy or pumps.
- Skid Mounted Design - Simplifies installation and maintenance while eliminating the need for a membrane tank.
- Low Fouling Membrane Chemistry - Hydrophilic PVDF or PES chemistry enhances membrane fouling and permeability characteristics.
