Liquid nitriding is a surface hardening technique applied to steel and other ferrous alloys to improve their wear resistance, corrosion resistance, and fatigue strength. The process involves immersing the components in a liquid bath containing a nitriding or nitrocarburizing salt solution. The process takes place at elevated temperatures, typically between 500°C and 650°C, in a controlled atmosphere. The liquid bath introduces nitrogen and carbon into the surface of the components, forming hard, wear-resistant nitrides and carbonitrides.
