In simpler days, most wastewater treatment facilities were not required to meet dissolved oxygen (DO) limits as criteria for discharge. Today, regulations imposed by federal and state agencies typically specify a minimum DO concentration of 6 milligrams per liter (MG/L), depending on the receiving stream requirements. Many wastewater treatment facilities have been forced to add post-aeration to achieve compliance. All aeration methods are designed to increase the DO level in the effluent by creating a greater amount of contact between air and water to enhance the transfer of oxygen. Traditional cascade aerators utilize great heights to allow the water to fall steeply from step to step into splash zones, with significant elevation changes needed to accommodate this process.

Air Infusion Plates and Leaping Weirs
The core component of the JMS Eco-AIR (Low Profile Cascade Aerator) is the leaping weir assembly. This stationary assembly allows for optimal velocity and pressure changes. Patented air infusion plates maximize the air to water mixture increasing effluent DO levels.

Influent Control Gate
The JMS Eco-AIR (Low Profile Cascade Aerator) uses patented Influent Control Gates. The Influent Control Gate is designed for optimal perfomance for low or peak flow rates. Each individual channel width is optimized for plant’s full range of flow.

Minimum Flow Control Gate
The JMS Eco-AIR (Low Profile Cascade Aerator) design includes a Minimum Flow Control Gate to allow control for variable influent flow rates.

Unlike prior cascade designs, where water falls steeply from step to step requiring great depth for installation, the Eco-AIR (Low Profile Cascade Aerator) utilizes optimum slopes of less than 5.5 degrees. Each channel is fitted with a series of patented trapezoidal air infusion plates with leaping weirs, staged to create velocity and pressure changes throughout the length of the channel.

Influent flow control gates are trapezoidal in shape and serve as flow control weirs as well as submerged orifices when flows demand. The first stage channel is designed for the minimum hydraulic flow rate of the treatment facility being served, and individual channel widths are optimized for job specific application flow rates. This special design insures even channel flow for all channels at low or peak influent flow rates.
