LTO Tape
LTO (Linear- Tape Open) is a multi-million dollar collaboration between HP, IBM and Seagate. The LTO Tape Format is a high capacity tape format. Offering 200 Gigabytes of storage with a projected doubling of this storage every year (400GB in 2005) LTO has a 40MB/s transfer rate currently. These transfer rates are also projected to double each year. This exceptionally reliable, high performance format has been developed to meet many of the data protection needs associated with the explosion in information storage.
