Manifold and drip-leg heaters are used to heat and maintain the manifold piping at an elevated temperature in order to evaporate liquid chlorine and prevent re-liquefaction of chlorine gas. Heaters are critically important for all pressurized chlorine manifolds. If allowed to enter the vacuum regulator, liquid chlorine will damage the vacuum system components. Over time if liquid chlorine is allowed to collect in the manifold it will cause more rapid corrosion than chlorine gas alone, increasing the chances of a pressurized gas leak.
