Feeders are devices used to control and meter the flow of materials to meet the specified flow rate of the crushing system or process system. They are the first step in designing a crushing/process system to meet the goals required. Several types of feeders can be used in a crushing/process system. They are selected to suit the material, feed rates and pre-sorting. The feeder decides the magnitude of the load on the crushing/process system. Therefore, the handling system load condition and thereby its performance is controlled by the feeder.

Why McLanahan Feeders

McLanahan offers a wide range of Feeders and is about to fill almost all applications either by a standard feeder or a custom feeder.

McLanahan Feeders have a long history in a whole range of applications, including ores and minerals in the mining industry; gravel, sand, limestone and granite in the aggregate industry; and municipal waste, shredded cars and metal, dross, slag, wood and stumps in the recycling industry.

How Feeders Work Apron Feeders

The Apron Feeder is the most robust Feeder and provides a high ROI. It offers a long service life with low maintenance and can be tailored to your application or installation.

Apron feeders are used for:

  • Small and large capacities
  • Extreme impact loading
  • Uniform feed rates
  • Many types of materials, such as mineral, aggregate, recycle
  • Very hard, tough and abrasive materials, as well as lumps of larger dimensions that are beyond the scope of other Feeders.
Drag and Reclaim Feeders

Drag and Reclaim Feeders consist of strands of chain with connecting cross bars designed to pull material. The design offers a low profile in the feed area, allowing it to be filled easier by bulldozers.

Drag and Reclaim Feeders are used for:

  • Reclaiming coal from a stockpile using a dozer
  • Eliminating requirements for a hopper
Wobbler Feeders

Materials are conveyed along the feeder as a result of the rotating motion of the elliptical bars. This motion scrubs and pre-sorts the material passing the fines to the bottom. The fines can then be pre-screened before a crusher, thus reducing the required capacity and wear.

Wobbler Feeders are used for.

  • Small and medium capacities
  • Where pre-sorting is required before a crusher
  • Uniform feed rates — dependent of homogenous feed gradation
  • Generally used for sticky types of materials to scrub the fines off
Vibrating Grizzly Feeders

Materials are conveyed along the pan of the feeder as a result of the vibrating motion imparted to the particles. This vibration pre-sorts the material passing the fines to the bottom. The fines can then be pre-screened before a crusher, thus reducing the required capacity and wear.

Vibrating Grizzly Feeders are smaller in size than Apron Feeders. They are used for:

  • Small and medium capacities
  • Smaller in size than an Apron Feeder
  • Where pre-sorting is required before a crusher
  • Close to uniform feed rates
  • Can be used for many types of materials

Feeders can be used in a variety of applications, including gravel, sand, limestone, granite, minerals, many types of ores, municipal waste, slag, wood and stumps, and shredded cars and metal.
