Model Chemical Additives -MPUV High Intensity Discharge Lamps
Most UV inks and coatings are cured with UV exposure Lamps. These lamps are much higher power than a germicidal lamp. Germicidal lamps have power levels that are just several watts/inch of arc length. The UV exposure lamps start at approximately 100W/inch and upward. UV exposure lamps can be made to give considerable germicidal radiation, but, require completely different ballasts, cooling and fixturing methods. They are not a simple retrofit into low pressure germicidal lamp applications.
The regular mercury exposure lamps have output peaks at 254nm and 365nm. Some inks, coatings and other applications call for other wavelengths such as 385nm and 417nm. This additional radiation is created by dosing the lamps with heavy metal compounds. In addition to mercury vapor lamps, LCD Lighting MPUV High Intensity Discharge lamps are available with the following additives: gallium, indium, lead and iron. Note: Mercury is present in all of these additive lamps.
