Model PSZ1010 -Fine Grinding Mill
A pharmaceutical manufacturer in Virginia receives one of their raw materials as a dry powder in 100-kg fiber drums. However, because the material is hygroscopic (tends to attract and absorb moisture from the air), it often compacts into lumps or chunks during transport. When the drum is emptied and the powder is fed into a mixing tank, the lumps sometimes prevent thorough mixing. In order to make sure that the lumps are removed, and that the powder that is fed into the mixing tank will quickly, completely, and reliably go into solution, a Model PSZ1010 Particle Sizer was installed just prior to the inlet of the mixing tank.
A specially designed system was built to meet customer requirements. The Particle Sizer is highly polished with ferrule connections for the inlet and outlet has an easily disassembled, sanitary design, and is mounted on a rolling cart for use in several locations. A drum dumper is used to invert the 1004<g drums and feed the Model PSZ1010 Particle Sizer, which discharges the delumped powder directly into the mixing tank. Using a size 097 Cage, the Model 1010 reduces the lumps to a consistent output size, approximately 10 mesh (.08"). and processes the entire 100 kg charge in less than 30 seconds.
