Netting & Gabions

A gabion is a 3-dimensional construction incorporating strongly galvanized steel wire in a double-twisted hexagonal netting. Gabions have been used in the construction industry for many decades in landscape modelling and erosion protection such as on hill flanks or river & channel banks reinforcement, construction of artificial stone walls, etc. For demanding applications such as highway cut-through retaining walls, or for use in water, it is made even more resilient with plastic coating.

The standard construction is a partitioned rectangular box. After installation, individual gabions are linked together into structures suitable to the given application, and then filled with rocks in fractions greater than 100 mm.

Simple mounting is carried out with:

• Clamping, with clamping equipment that can usually be rented from construction- and road-building equipment rental suppliers
• Fastening wire of type used for concrete reinforcement, by hand
