Why use Fast Deployment Oil Containment Booms versus Standard Booms?

Oil containment booms are used in offshore water as a first response to an oil spill or by Spill Response Contractors to divert, control and maintain an oil spill. Once the spill has been contained the contractor will then proceed to recover and clean up the oil. The main advantage of using a Fast Deployment boom is the reduced time it takes to deploy thanks to the use of a reel system.

This boom has a flat float, is light weight and does not require inflation. It stores and deploys from a hydraulic reel thereby occupying less space, less manpower and 1,000 ft can be deployed in 8-10 minutes with minimal personnel (3- 4 persons).  It has a top tension cable which provides great tensile strength, which is required in offshore operations due to strong currents, tide changes, windy conditions and choppy water.
