ORTNER - Oil/Water Separators
ORTNER Oil/Water Separators are required wherever there is a risk of hydrocarbon pollutants causing contamination at the point of discharge, i.e. car parks, motorways, petrol stations, garages, car washes, industrial plants etc. In order to guarantee the proper functioning of the oil separator a slit trap has to be placed either in a separate tank upstream of the separator or below the separator. For dimensioning of the slit trap you need to refer to European Standard EN 858.
The inlet is designed in such a way that backflow of oil is inhibited. The oil contaminated water is guided below the water surface and the flow is smoothed. Thereby the lighter oil gets separated from the water and flows to the surface.
The ORTNER separator inlet does not require maintenance. An inspection manhole is not required.
The so pre-cleaned water is conducted through the coalescence filter. In this stage the fine droplets that are too small to be separated by gravity alone are accumulated into bigger drops that rise to the surface. Downstream the separated water has a residual contamination of hydrocarbon of less than 5 mg/liter and can be discharged to the receiving water. When the maximum oil level is reached the discharge pipe is securely closed by an automatic shut-off valve.
A sampling device is provided on top of the discharge pipe. This device can be operated through the oil/water separator inspection manhole.
