The patent was for a linear beam optical sensor of smoke with a newly developed infrared technology, destined to become a worldwide standard in the field of fire detection. This sensor was called ‘linear optical smoke detector’. The first model produced was the RK60 detector, first born of a RK series patented in Italy and approved by the Ministry of Interior (CSE Experimental Centre of Fire of Rome Capannelle), based on a series of specific functional fire tests described in the EN54 standards.

In the same period EDS has developed a new series of sensors for the detection of gases with an optical technology based on the interaction between an infrared optical beam and the gas under consideration.

Our commitment and our ongoing research, according to market needs, leads us to develop new advanced and reliable products quickly and effectively. The EDS is part of the group dedicated to Automated Systems Fire Detection in the european Technical Committee TC 72 at UNI standardization body. The EDS is also part of several associations in the security field as ANIE ANCISS and is also part of the API association of small and medium enterprises of Verona. Since 2001, EDS is ISO9001 certified by the prestigious TUV NORD.

Even at that time, the RK series, with 22 models, was covering all possible installation requirements.

Currently, EDS produces state-of-the-art RK series beam detectors with microprocessor control and advanced features with CPD and VDS certifications. The EDS also manufactures, from the 80s, IR (infrared) and UV (ultraviolet) flame detectors, spark detectors to protect silos, and combustible and toxic gas detectors in IP65 and flameproof Ex-d ATEX executions, certified by TUV NORD certification body, covering the full range of requirements in the field of industrial security.
