Passive chimney filter
A passive chimney filter is a device used to remove odors in facilities that are part of the sanitary sewage infrastructure. Chimney filters are most often used in sewage pumping stations, as the frequently changing sewage levels in the pumping station pits cause air to escape into the atmosphere, which can cause unpleasant odors in the surrounding area. The filter is equipped with an activated carbon cartridge through which air flows and is purified. The device is a passive filter, meaning it does not have an electric fan. Air flow is forced by gravity – either through the pressure difference inside and outside the pit or by sewage flowing into the facility, displacing air from the sewers, pumping stations, or pits. Thanks to the use of a passive chimney filter, the air escaping into the atmosphere is free of toxic and odorous substances. These devices are particularly suitable for use in areas where there is no electrical supply, which eliminates the possibility of using an active odour control units, and in areas where the air pollution does not contain hydrogen sulphide (the unpleasant smell is caused by fresh sewage with its characteristic faecal odour).
Facilities where chimney filters are most commonly used:
- Expansion wells (slow down chambers)
- Inspection wells for sanitary sewage systems
- Wastewater treatment plants
- Sewage pumping stations
Device parameters:
- Bed: activated carbon, impregnated
- Diameter: 110 mm, 160 mm, 200 mm
- Efficiency: 12 m3/h
- Material: HDPE
Installation conditions:
The passive chimney filters are suitable for installation in openings located in manhole covers as well as next to the manhole (after the ventilation pipe has been ducted). The opening is sealed using a sealing passage for smooth-walled pipes with an external diameter of 110 / 160 / 200 mm.
