Portable Gas Samplers are used for monitoring air quality on shop floor, in ambient environment and emission from fume hoods ducts etc. These instruments are compact and light weight and come with a choice of operating on battery (B) or mains(M). Each Portable Gas Sampler consists of a sampling train of 3 impinger tubes and a 3 way valve manifold for independent control of flow for each impinger tube. This facilitates simultaneous sampling of 3 gases. Suitable reagents are placed in the impinger tubes for entrapping specific pollutants of interest. The absorbing solutions are analyzed subsequently in the laboratory to determine the concentration of specific pollutants.

A Portable Gas Samplers comprises of a sampling train, a sampling pump, a 3 way flow controller and a microprocessor based electronic timer cum time totalizer.

The impinger tubes are housed in thermally insulated double walled housing. Each sampler is made of corrosion free Stainless Steel and houses all the components and sub-assemblies. Suitable reagents can be placed in the impinger tubes for entrapping specific pollutants of interest.

The suction for sampling is created by a diaphragm type suction pump. The flow is measured by a custom designed high accuracy rotameter .

Portable Gas Sampler PEM-PGS1B utilizes a small battery operated suction pump while PEM-PGS2M includes a mains operated higher capacity suction pump.

PEM-PGS2M is designed to be mains operated to tide over the limitation of a battery for supplying power required for operating higher capacity suction pump. This makes PEM-PGS2M more suitable where particulate sampling in work place is required in addition to gaseous sampling.

The sampling train accommodates three glass impingers which are housed in thermally insulated double walled housing. The three impingers are connected pneumatically in parallel; the sampled air is made to flow through each of them simultaneously. A three way valve manifold is used to set the flow for each channel independently. A single rotameter is used to set and measure the sampling flow for each channel. It, therefore, permits sampling for three pollutants at a time at different flows as per specific pollutants.

Pollutant-specific reagent solutions are placed into the glass impingers for entrapping the pollutants of interest. A filter holder with a suitable glass fiber filter paper is used in one of the channels for particulate sampling.

Each sampler is made of corrosion free Stainless Steel and houses all the components and sub-assemblies.

The microprocessor-based Electronic assembly carries out multiple functions of timing, time totalization (Cumulative Sampling Time) and Operator Machine Interface. The LCD display and the key pad serve as the Operator machine interface devices. The user / operator can set the Sample Time, Delay Time (Sampling to start after the set delay time). The user can control the starting and stopping of sampling.
