Enviro Klor - Potassium Hypochlorite
Sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) bleach is used in an array of industrial, institutional, and household applications and is generally considered the `gold standard` to which all new sanitizers and disinfectants are compared. However, for all of its versatile and positive attributes, sodium hypochlorite has a major drawback in that it leaves behind roughly two pounds of sodium chloride salt for every gallon of 12.5% bleach used. Sodium ions have no beneficial qualities when added to either land or water masses. In soil, excess sodium ions can cause soil sodicity and make soil less water-permeable.
Enviro Tech has taken this negative aspect and replaced it with a positive attribute in potassium hypochlorite (KOCl). KOCl has all the same characteristics of NaOCl in terms of versatile applications, efficacy and appearance. However, sodium has been replaced with potassium, a beneficial nutrient. When KOCl is used, the resulting disinfection by-product is potassium chloride (KCl), the most commonly purchased form of potassium fertilizer in the United States.
Potassium hypochlorite clearly offers major benefits to food processors, packing sheds, municipalities, and numerous other facilities that would be made more economical and environmentally-friendly by recycling their waste water for irrigation purposes, but are limited by concerns about soil sodicity.
HASA Chemical has been selected by Enviro Tech to produce and market potassium hypochlorite under the name Aura KlorT.
