RAPPModel UGA-42 GEO -Selectable Shape Scanning Device for Localized Photomanipulation

SHARE

The UGA-42 Firefly is an integral component of the scanner-based UGA-42 series designed for precise photomanipulation applications requiring high laser intensity. This system is adept at illuminating small areas or larger regions with remarkable power density, making it suitable for diverse scientific and research needs. Its modular structure allows integration and upgrades with up to four separate laser ports and other modules from the UGA-42 series, including the UGA-42 Geo and UGA-42 Caliburn. The system supports compatibility with most major research microscopes, facilitating a tailored approach for specific applications. The UGA-42 Firefly operates with precision and speed, powered by SysCon software that offers extensive customization for regions of interest and is equipped with real-time control for swift and accurate laser beam movement. The device's adaptability is further enhanced through easy synchronization with other equipment via TTL ports, enabling comprehensive experimental setups.

The UGA‑42 Geo is another member of the UGA‑42 series of laser scanner devices for localized photomanipulation. In contrast to the UGA‑42 Firefly, the UGA‑42 Geo is mainly designed to generate illuminated regions of different size and shape in the field of view of the microscope. These selected regions can be rapidly moved with the galvanometric mirrors on the field of view. Thus, the UGA‑42 Geo is the perfect system for applications where simultaneous illumination of an entire area is crucial, e.g. in optogenetics where the time needed to scan a region of interest (ROI) might take too long to open a certain number of channels. The optical module is coupled into the backport to the microscope without interfering with most other existing devices (e.g. spinning disk, LSM, etc.).

Shape Illumination/ Simultaneous Illumination of Large Areas

The UGA‑42 Geo comes with preset hardware-defined geometries like circles, squares, rectangles and donuts of different size. By reshaping the laser spot, simultaneous illumination of a selected geometry is enabled. It replaces the necessity to scan larger ROIs such as entire cells, and avoids a temporal delay during the illumination.

Modularity and Flexibility

The UGA‑42 Geo includes the UGA-42 Firefly which allows free positioning of the chosen shape within the field of view. This increases the flexibility for your application and system. In addition, the UGA‑42 Geo can be combined with the UGA‑42 Caliburn ablation system. Furthermore, in addition to a single line laser light source, a laser combiner like the LDI laser diode illuminator can be coupled to the UGA‑42 Geo module to provide even more flexibility for your present and future experimental needs.
