The Olpas Sediment Load Sensor is a pre-calibrated modbus sensor specifically designed for measuring suspended sediment concentration (SSC) in open water or canal environments. Utilizing OLPAS ultrasound measurement technology, the sensor ensures minimal impact from fouling, extending maintenance intervals significantly over traditional optical sensors. This ultrasonic backscattering technique allows the device to operate unaffected by variations in water color, fluid velocity, or the physical properties of suspended solids. The sensor, housed in anodized aluminum, is designed to remain partially or fully submerged, requiring a DC supply voltage of 6V to 24V. It supports modbus RTU communication and can integrate into existing IoT or PLC frameworks. A robust design allows for installation in hard-to-reach areas, supported by fixed or flexible mounting configurations, enhancing its utility in diverse environments. Visual inspections and basic cleaning suffice for routine maintenance, while preventive measures ensure optimized performance.

Basic maintenance (or routine maintenance) includes cleaning the sensor with a soft sponge, cloth, or tissue. 

Standard mild cleaning products can be used to clean the sensor better.

A visual inspection to assess the integrity of the housing is recommended to detect any problems in a timely manner.

 

Preventive Maintenance

Preventive maintenance should be performed when one of the following scenarios occurs:

  • Use of the sensor outside the recommended temperature range (based on external or internal temperature measurement)

  • After one year of continuous use

  • In the case of physical, mechanical, or electrical damage to the sensor

  • When humidity reaches 85% or higher inside the sensor housing

  • The sensor’s measurements deviate from the real concentration, even after calibration
