Slip On Flange
A reason why the slip on Flange is very popular is due to their cost being inexpensive, in comparison to weld neck flanges. A Class 300 SORF Flange is a ring that has been placed over the pipe end, with the face of the flange extending from one end of the pipe by enough distance in such a manner that a weld bead could be applied on the inside diameter of the flange. In addition to the inner diameter, the OD or outer diameter of a slip on flange is also required to be welded on its backside. As compared to a weld neck flange, generally slip on flanges are more easily aligned. Considered to be well suited for use in low pressure and temperature applications, the Carbon Steel Slip On Flange is available in large sizes, which could also be used to form connections with big-bore piping that has a storage tank nozzle.
Since a slip on flanges is constructed by means of forging, they are provided with a hub. ASME B16. 5 is a standard that takes into account Steel Pipe Flanges for e.g. ASME B16.5 Slip On Flange and Flanged Fittings from NPS 1/2 inch through NPS 24 Metric/Inch. The Stainless Steel Slip On Flange is available in pressure class ranging between 150 to class 2500. Slip On Flange manufacturers use this standard to produce flanges since it covers multiple parameters such as materials used, dimensions, pressure-temperature ratings, tolerances, marking, testing, as well as methods of designating openings for pipe flanges in addition to flanged fittings.
